The Korean inverter 5kW (PowerGen Pro 5kW, model 5KW-PV9000-24V) is a pure sine wave solar inverter for homes. It runs on a 24V battery bank and accepts up to 9000W of solar input. In addition, it charges the battery from solar and grid power at up to 160A. Its rated capacity is 6250VA / 5000W.
Korean Inverter 5kW Solar Input
The PowerGen Pro takes up to 9000W of PV power, well above its 5kW output rating. Its MPPT operating range runs from 40V to 450VDC, with a 500VDC max. open-circuit voltage. Max. solar input current is 28A, so it suits today’s high-current panels. Peak PV-to-inverter efficiency is also 96%.
Battery and Charging
It works with lithium and lead-acid batteries at a nominal 24V (2 × 12V). Combined solar and AC charging runs at up to 160A, adjustable from 2A. Charging voltages are also settable, so you can match them to your battery. For example, CV mode is settable from 28V to 29V.
Backup Output and Protection
The Korean inverter 5kW supplies 5kW from solar plus battery, or 4kW from the battery alone. It also handles a 15000VA surge for appliances with high startup current. If the grid fails, it switches over in 10 ms in both UPS and appliance modes. Meanwhile, overload protection steps in once the load passes 102%. It also has a built-in transfer switch and power booster.
Build and Warranty
The unit weighs 10 kg and measures 394 × 326 × 110 mm (D × W × H). In addition, it connects over RS485, RS232, USB and dry contact. However, its IP21 rating means it needs a sheltered indoor spot. It operates from -10°C to 50°C and carries a 5-year warranty (2 years free, 3 years service).
